Cherry Systems History
Atlanta-based Cherry Systems, the largest data recovery firm in the Southeast, has been retrieving “lost data” for companies and individuals for nearly 20 years. Increasingly, however, the data in question needs to be provided for litigation purposes. In both civil and criminal issues, electronic data on a computer hard drive, tape or other storage device that has been hidden, deleted or otherwise damaged, can be crucial to the case. Whether it’s a disgruntled former employee who 'wiped out' his computer before leaving, an individual trying to hide evidence of fraud, sexual harassment or embezzlement, or a spouse trying to obtain evidence of infidelity in a divorce case, forensic data recovery is now one of the fastest growing sectors in the data recovery industry.

The first hard drive
The first hard drive was created in 1956. It was called the IBM 305 RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control), and was the first magnetic hard disk for data storage. It was designed for what is today called the 'main frame' class of large computers and required 50 24-inch disks to store 5 MB of data, a large amount of data in those days. The cost to lease this device at that time was approximately $35,000 a year.
